Basic life support (BLS) includes recognition of signs of sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, and foreign body airway obstruction, with the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation with an automated external defibrillator (AED). Basic life support (BLS) trains healthcare professionals and public safety personnel.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can help save a life during cardiac arrest, and is for anyone who wants to learn the basic skills needed to help adults, children and/or infants during cardiac emergencies. With CPR you will learn the proper way to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills such as chest compressions and rescue breathing.
These courses are designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to emergencies and save lives. The type of certification you need depends on your particular industry’s requirements: if you’re in the healthcare field or work as a first responder, BLS is best; if you want to learn how to perform basic, life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a CPR certification may be the preferred choice.
At the end of each course there will be an exam. In order to be certified and receive a CPR card you must pass the exam with a grade of 80% or higher. Training is 2-4 hours long. You MUST stay for the entire class to receive certification.
